Bran Castle
Some sketches of Bran Castle in Romania, a Medieval fortress often associated with Bram Stoker’s eponymous anti-hero. Although associations between Bran Castle and the alleged inspiration for Dracula’s eponymous hero - Vlad the Impaler - are fairly tenuous, the castle is popularly referred to as ‘Dracula’s Castle’ and is consequently something I tend to think about sketching around late October.
The three drafts shown below are a progression of a colour sketch layered with a line and pencil drawing. The aim was to try and get an idea of the density of the trees in the area which I suspect is partly why the castle is so frequently associated with the supernatural.
