Colour Drawings
Over the weekend I worked on colouring some drawings, with mixed results. The first was this drawing of Los Angeles:

Pen and ink and marker on paper.
I quite like some aspects of this but overall it could be balanced better. However, it’s a good basis for a final piece; I’m quite interested in making more collaged illustrations and some colour like this might work well.
I also worked on this biro drawing of Egypt:

Biro on watercolour paper.
On reflection I should probably have left this as it was because I quite liked it, but I wanted to try some watercolour over the pen to see how they went together.

I like some bits of this but it got far too muddy and I ended up using white acrylic on some areas which can be a good technique and worked in some ways but overall deadened the colour too much. However I did like some of the yellow with the blue and I think this might be a good starting palette for a map of Egypt and the Nile.
So overall, there was limited success but as this is the exact reason I tend to avoid colouring my work a lot of the time, it was definitely useful. I’d like to develop both these pieces over the next few weeks and hopefully work on resolving some of the mistakes in the process.
